I only ever awaken to the horrid buzzer of my alarm clock when it is deemed absolutely necessary {i.e. when I need to be ready to go before 8 a.m., dressed and sparkly. Well, the sparkle is often optional before 8 a.m.}
On weekdays my children are my alarm clock, climbing into my bed with their blankies and stuffies- hair mussed and bodies warm from a comfy night's sleep, but still ready for more. We snuggle. Three people 5 feet and under and many fluffy friends- Wally, Elmo, monkeys and pups.
Eventually one of the warm bodies decides they want to get up and start the day with cereal and Disney Junior. I can assure you it is not me. While other {online} home school mom acquaintances are up with the sun planning their day and drinking in the Word, I am praying about my day from the comfort of my b.e.d. When the second warm body is lured down the stairs by their sibling and the cartoon cacophony of early mornings, I roll out of my sanctuary and dress in "big girl clothes."
The hours between 8 and 10 a.m. are left for "doing life." breakfast and Bible reading {or a podcast for inspiration while I juggle tasks}, email and social media. I mentally cover the checklist for the day. I create a tangible checklist if I know I'll forget. People to call, items to order, errands to run.
At 9:45 the warning goes out. Finish up your games and shows and drinks and whatever that is you are doing with the matchbox cars and the living room rug.
It's time to home school.
